Tools for multidisciplinary collaborations

Covering a wide range of creative practices in digital culture, NODE’s educational platform encouraged students to go beyond their fields and enabled them to use ‘vvvv’ as a visual software toolkit for future multidisciplinary collaborations.

Digital culture is multifaceted, omnipresent and gives distinction to all areas of life, though the underlying technology seems to be complex and difficult to handle in the first step. To lower the barriers of entry to cutting edge digital techniques, the choice of a sustainable, flexible and intuitive toolkit is essential.

The visual development software ‘vvvv’ allows for experimenting, prototyping and producing digital environments with all kinds of interactive media. In the hands-on beginners workshops ‘vvvv for newbies’ participating students were introduced to vvvv’s user interface and its paradigms of a visual, node based programming language.
