NODE+CODE #22.1 – The Three Body No Problem
Interactive keynote by Navid Navab
How to work with wild, unpredictable processes, in which lively beings have a central role? In this participatory keynote, art-scientist and this year’s Golden Nica: Prix Ars Electronica winner Navid Navab invites us into a world of alchemical investigations – a world in which the practice of scientific measurement is opened to the senses for attunement towards the unquantifiable movement of life. Drawing from insights from biological philosophy and tabletop astrophysics, Navab asks: How does matter develop inner time and a sense of intentionality? How may we attune to this generative movement and embrace it as a collaborating designer or performer?
In the second part of the talk, Navab will share his making process in a practical and interactive way. (Info following soon!)
NODE+CODE #22.1 is taking place as part of the soft opening week of display and the nationwide ‘Netzpolitik & Demokratie’ campaign days. display is the new space for digital practice in the centre of Frankfurt and a cooperation project between us, NODE Forum for Digital Arts, and ‘Stabstelle Digitalisierung’, the Digitalisation Department of the City of Frankfurt am Main.

As always, we’ll open the doors at 18:30, allowing us all to get comfortable and start at 19:00 with the presentations from our speakers. You may enjoy some delicious soup with us and have a chat with the rest of our wonderful community.

Through an investigative ArtScience practice, Navab’s recent creations meticulously stage uncanny forms of order by imbuing machines with a sense of liveliness through fusion with the excitable dynamics of matter. Navab’s art-machines sculpturally engage with transductive structures of liveliness, probing the excitable tendencies of matter—suspended in metastable states where thermodynamic reservoirs of indeterminacy generate cybernetic intentionality. Making the imperceptible palpable, these investigative works orchestrate sensory attunement to forms of life, at the pre-metabolic border between breathing and not breathing, while cybernetically enfolding their excitable dynamics.
