It’s time for the next NODE+CODE! For our meetup No.25 Relearning Remembrance we will have three speakers at once: Johanna Sentef, Begüm Inal and Michael Lenarz.

 

This time around, we are hosting a special edition of NODE+CODE.

With No.25 Relearning Remembrance, we will explore different digital archives of the cities of Frankfurt and Offenbach. If knowledge can be preserved digitally forever, will all stories be remembered? The various projects will highlight the challenges involved in digitising history and how forgotten history can be rediscovered and maintained.

Johanna Sentef

Begüm Inal

Frankfurt, Germany

Begüm Inal is a project manager and research associate in the DFG-funded project “The Digital Archive of the Städelschule, 1920–1950” at the Städelschule Academy of Fine Arts. She works at the intersection of archival practice, digital humanities, and art history, and is responsible for the cross-collection cataloging and digitization of heterogeneous archival materials, as well as the development of digital workflows to consolidate dispersed collections.
Her work focuses on digital provenance research, data interoperability, and the critical examination of historical records from the period 1920–1950, including documents from the Nazi era. She reflects on the formation of institutional archives and asks: Which perspectives are missing, what was deliberately archived or omitted, and how is discriminatory language in historical documents addressed?

Michael Lenarz

Michael Lenarz is a historian based in Offenbach who specialises in the history of Jews in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. He worked at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt from 1985-2022, initially as a research assistant and since 2012 as deputy director. He is a founding member of the Max Dienemann / Salomon Formstecher Society and has been its 2nd Chairman since 1997. He has been a member of the advisory board of the Central Archive for Research into the History of Jews in Germany since 2013 and a member of the board of the Commission for the History of Jews in Hesse since 2017.

The NODE+CODE meetups continue. We will continue to exchange knowledge, keep close with the community – and, of course, we will again serve drinks and a yummy soup for free!

What is NODE+CODE?

Since 2014, the meetup invites creatives, designers, artists, coders and anyone else interested to a series of events with changing locations and thematic focuses – all related to working with code in design and the arts. We want to build a community of people interested in the creative and critical application of technology in Frankfurt and Rhein-Main.
