What will happen during the workshop?
The four-day workshop will offer you insights into the practical work with different digital tools, as well as delve into artistic questions of what digital spaces entail – questions that have been debated in the net art community for a long time.
Together, we will go on a virtual expedition through worldwide networked, freely accessible digital stages and spaces. In which form are they used and which aesthetics, narratives and references do we find written in them? We are looking for our digital performer self, questioning our performing body and its relationship to digital space and its avatar. When do digital and analog bodies and presences merge? What role do liveness, immersion and presence play beyond classical stage arrangements, performer and audience roles, or divisions between analog and digital worlds?
The workshop teaches practical methods and tools for artistic work with the social VR platform Mozilla Hubs and gives support so that you can create your own worlds in VR. We will experiment with photogrammetry, avatars and forms of interaction, as well as other digital tools to make our own digital stages. Your mentors will actively guide you in developing your first artistic experiments in a VR environment.
The project prototypes created during the workshop may be presented during Hauptsache Frei – Festival der Darstellenden Künste Hamburg 2021.
