Mapping Memories – Ver(antw)ortung Börneplatz
Four day outdoor event at Neuer Börneplatz, Frankfurt
From September 9th–12th, “Mapping Memories” invites you to join performances, guided tours, lectures, discussions and digital formats that turn Börneplatz into the site of a lively debate on culture of remembrance.
The Börneplatz in Frankfurt, the adjacent neighborhoods and especially its synagogue used to be vibrant places of Jewish life, significant for the city’s society and all Germany. Ceremoniously opened in 1882, the synagogue was brutally destroyed during the Reich Pogrom Night on November 10, 1938.
For four days, “Mapping Memories” invites you to join performances, guided tours, lectures, discussions and digital that turn Börneplatz into the site of a lively debate: How do we want to remember today, how do we want to live in and with places of remembrance? With their temporary interventions on Neuer Börneplatz, Nikolaus Hirsch and Michel Müller, Helgard Haug from the artists’ collective Rimini Protokoll, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends and many other experts open our eyes to the historical dimension of the square and its surroundings.
The question of which and whose history is being told there and which gaps remain is just as central as the significance of the preserved architectural evidence of the destroyed synagogue.
with mit Helgard Haug/Rimini Protokoll, Nikolaus Hirsch & Michel Müller, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends, Marc Grünbaum, Prof. Dr. Elisa Klapheck, Leon Joskowitz, Ethan Braun, Jo Frank and many more…
