Carmen Salas Pino
Curatorial Advisor
Carmen Salas is an independent curator and cultural producer based in London, Mexico City and Seville. Her work is interdisciplinary and focuses on exploring how technology and the network are shaping society. She is particularly interested in examining the human-technology-nature relationship, and how our behaviour, and cultural/societal values change with respect to the so called “technological progress”. Through her work, she makes visible the economic model and mechanisms that underpin our digital ecosystem, and its connection and implications at the economic, political, socio-cultural and environmental levels. She is interested in working with artists, designers, practitioners, institutions and organisations who challenge the traditional ideas about humanity and the human condition.
She is the founding artistic director of Connecting the Dots, an international forum on creativity, art and digital culture that takes place in Mexico City since 2018. In 2009 she co-founded Alpha-ville, a cultural agency dedicated to exploring the collisions between art, science, technology and digital culture through conferences, exhibitions and live events. She has worked and collaborated with institutions worldwide including: the British Film Institute (London), Whitechapel Gallery (London), V&A’s Digital Design Weekend (London), Rich Mix Cultural Foundation (London), Hackney Empire Theatre (London), Kings Place (London), Rambert Dance Company (London), Goethe Institut (London), Finnish Institute (London), Microsoft, Athens Video Art Festival (Athens), CTM Festival (Berlin), Mobile World Centre (Barcelona), Sonar+D (Barcelona), Centro de Cultura Digital (Mexico City), Ex-Teresa Arte Actual Museum (Mexico City), Espacio Fundación Telefónica (Lima), LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial (Gijón) and Mapping Festival (Geneva). She is currently a guest curator and art consultant for a variety of organisations and artists.
