Susanna Hertrich (D) is a multi-disciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, design and technology. Among other things, she invents wondrous devices and fantastical wearables that she refers to as prostheses for accelerated human evolution. Subtly satirising our present reality, her prostheses articulate social criticism as well as showing a vision for an alternative future. Selected exhibitions include CAFA Art museum, Beijing, EMAF Festival, Osnabrueck, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, MARTa Herford, Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, La Triennale di Milano, III. Biennale of Contemporary Art, Merida, Venezuela, EMPAC, New York, FACT Liverpool and more. She has been a research fellow in the Meta-Perception group at the University of Tokyo and the Design Research Lab at the University of the Arts in Berlin. She is a recipient of numerous grants and has been an invited artist in residence at Tokyo Wonder Site in Japan, TASML Tsinghua Art & Science Media Lab in Beijing and Goethe Institute’s Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto where she will live and work from spring to summer 2015. She currently teaches at Chiba University in Japan and is affiliated with the newly founded Critical Media Lab at the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures in Basel, Switzerland.
