A single thought can trigger fireworks of electrical signals in the brain. Since the revolution of Neuroscience around 80 years ago, EEG allows the monitoring of the brain without performing surgery. This has opened a whole new horizon to medical research but also artists started to making their stance.
This introductory and inspirational workshop on neuro technology and art employed Emotiv software and hardware to track EEG signals and sonify or visualise them. After a brief introduction on the use of EEG (Electroencephalography) and art, the workshop addressed the topic of EEG signals and brainwaves and how they can be manipulated to perform different kinds of data visualisations and sonifications using ‘vvvv’. Different techniques and protocols were introduced to design real-time EEG-based interfaces for artistic applications.
