Kinect Basics
The groundbreaking technology of depth cameras allows to record environments and human movement in 3 dimensions. This turns media performances and installations into interactive playgrounds and unfolds new creative and involving potential. This workshop exlained how to set up the Kinect with vvvv and gave an understanding of its basic principles and constraints.
Who was the target audience of the workshop?
Artists, designers and creative coders who wanted to get to know the Kinect2 device for sensing depth and tracking human motion.
What did attendees of the workshop learn?
We looked at different approaches of how to use the Kinect and learned ways of how to use the data that the Kinect v2 nodes provide.
The Kinect for Windows is a 3D motion sensing device which can be used for cool human-computer interactions.
Together we did set up the Kinect v2 with vvvv and looked at four approaches of how to use the sensor for different solutions:
- shadow interaction using the depth information
- drawing a geometric avatar using the joint information
- we will play around with a pointcloud visualisation
- the possibilities of interacting with virtual objects that react to your body
