Multi-user vvvvr

Face your own body as a digital VR avatar that is changing and reacting to your movements and the behavior of another person with whom you share a virtual reactive environment with. Participants explored the possibilities of interaction with multi-user VR and experienced it in an installation.

Who was the target audience of the workshop?

Anyone curious in experiencing multi-user VR and designing live multi-user interaction.

What did attendees of the workshop learn?

  • Discovering a way to accomplish multi-user interaction in VR using vvvv.
  • How to communicate with other people in VR?
  • Can we think of new multi-user interactions?
  • What does your avatar look like, how does it visually react to an other user?

What happened in the workshop?

After a short introduction on the possibilities of interacting with two people in VR we went through some examples that show multi user interaction. We looked at input data provided by either the Kinect v2 or the HTC Vive to base your interactions upon or create reactive visuals with.

We did encourage people to think of and create their own experience and interactions for how people could meet in VR, after which they had the ability to experience this augmented interaction first hand! As mentioned above we did express ourselves in VR using a digital pointcloud, to accomplish this we used the DX11 particles pack from which we experimented with the different emitters, effectors and modifiers provided within the pack.

Also she co-organizes Creative Coding Utrecht, a meetup that aims to open up the field of creative code and artistic technologies.
