Gregor Schwellenbach (Piano) and Sam Aaron (Raspberry Pi) joined forces to transform Mousonturm’s big hall from a Symposium space into a concert hall.
What is the role of interfaces in music making? An analog piano keyboard (invented 1397) and the digital Raspberry Pi computer (invented 2012) together one one stage – two instruments which could not be more differing.
Composer and software engineer Sam Aaron (Cambridge University, UK) reinvented musical instruments and used a tiny computer for performing live on stage. He sweeped of the audience with his newly improvised and programmed electronic music. Live and coded.
The jam session was completed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Gregor Schwellenbach, who played classics of electronic dance music – all un-digitally with his hands on the piano, an instrument whose first draft and documentary evidence goes back to the year 1397.
Together they created a haunting, immersive experience, fusing digital and analogue instruments into one seamless concert.
