NODE15 Youngsters

In 2015, NODE was an experimental ground also for our younger colleagues in the world.

NODE15, for the first time, opened up to the youngest coders and hackers in the world and the region of Rhine-Main. Our very new community members could take part in workshops or just hang out in the hack space and mingle with other coders and makers.

In 2017, we are very excited to collaborate with Jugend hackt, Jugendladen Bornheim,
Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt and Goethe University Frankfurt
to organize even more opportunities for young people at NODE.

100 Oscillators with Darsha Hewitt

Oszillatoren umgeben uns im Alltag in Computern, Uhren, dem Internet, Radios und Mikrowellen. Sie erzeugen elektrische Schwingungen, die durch die ständige Veränderung der Energie entstehen.
Gemeinsam in der Gruppe bauten wir 100 Oszillatoren! Beim anschließenden Experimentieren mit den elektronischen Komponenten und der Geschwindigkeit der Oszillatoren konnten wir Klänge erzeugen, die es mit den Sounds berühmter elektronischer Musiker aufnehmen können. Für den Workshop waren keine besonderen Vorkenntnisse erforderlich – nur Lust auf Kreativität.

An oscillator is a mechanical or electronic device that fluctuates between two things based on changes in energy. Electronic oscillators are fundamental building blocks of electronic technology. Computers, clocks, the internet, watches, radios, microwave ovens, metal detectors and synthesizers are some of the devices that use oscillators.
As a group, our goal was to build 100 oscillators! By experimenting with different electronic components, we will change the speed of the oscillators so they make different sounds. This workshop was a unique opportunity for participating teens to build an electronic oscillator with their own hands, to experience technology in a new and fascinating way and most importantly: to have fun!

Shadow Paper Monsters mit Anton und Alessandro

Im Workshop Shadow Paper Monsters mit Anton und Alessandro lernt Ihr Eure eigenen Filme zu animieren! Gebraucht werden dafür lediglich Hände, Papierschnipsel, Scheren, Licht und eine Kamera und es entsteht ein lustiges Universum aus Schattenkreaturen. Mit ein wenig Hilfe von Technologie werden die Schattenmonster zum Leben erweckt, zum Tanzen, Springen und Interagieren. Hinter den Kulissen stellen die Workshopleiter die Technik der Stop-Motion Animation vor und erklären die Technologie, die das Erwecken von lebendigen Schatten ermöglicht.

In the workshop, we will discover the wonderful world of handmade frame-by-frame animation of films. You will only need your hands, pieces of paper, scissors, some light and a camera to create a whole universe of friendly and funny shadow creatures. With a little help of technology we will bring the shadows of our kind monsters to life. We will jump, dance, interact and “wear” their shadows. Behind the scenes, we introduce you to the stop motion animation technique and give an overview of the technology used to create living shadows.
